Welcome to the Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Centre Practicum Program, a meaningful partnership between education and experience. At the Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Centre, we recognize the importance of student learning and the invaluable perspectives students bring to our work. Our practicum placements provide students with hands-on opportunities to encourages growth, reflection, and professional development while contributing meaningfully to the care and support of individuals and families navigating pregnancy and infant loss.

About Our Practicum Program

Our Practicum Program provides a trauma-aware, inclusive, and community-based learning environment where students can develop both personal and professional skills. Practicum placements may include opportunities in counselling, social service work, community engagement, event coordination, and other related areas. Each placement offers a balance of direct client support and administrative or project-based work, giving students the chance to explore diverse aspects of community engagement and organizational operations.

We’ve partnered with students from a variety of institutions and programs, including:

  • CityU
  • Mount Royal University
  • City of Calgary
While placement opportunities are currently limited, we deeply value our ongoing partnerships with educational institutions and the contributions of students to our work. We remain committed to nurturing these relationships and are always open to exploring future collaboration to provide meaningful learning experiences.

Practicum Placements

“Yes! I have learned so much throughout my time at PILSC, which has definitely allowed me to meet my goals. Through my conversations with staff, access to training and resources, and observations during group sessions, my own knowledge and skills have grown so much. I deeply appreciate the support I received from staff & volunteers during my time at PILSC, and am honoured to have been a part of a team that is so intentional and compassionate. While my placement was short, it sure was sweet and is an experience I will hold close to my heart for many years to come.” – Practicum Student
