Born and raised in apartheid South Africa, Emma witnessed the destructive impact of human ego, arrogance, and greed from a young age. After a career dedicated to community development and youth empowerment in various African communities, she moved to Canada in 2018 and completed her certifications in Life Coaching and Professional Counselling.
Emma is a mother to one living son and balances her time between being home with him, running her private counselling practice, volunteering for PILSC, and working part-time as an anti-racism community outreach worker at her local immigration agency.
Emma began her journey with PILSC in January 2023 when she joined a PILSC Weekly Late Loss Support Group as a participant. She has since become a PILSC Group Facilitator, Peer Mentor, and Rural Ambassador.

Want to become a Rural Ambassador?
The Together Through Loss: Rural Ambassador Program is ideal for individuals in rural communities who have a desire to make a difference in the lives of those navigating infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, Termination for Medical Reasons (TFMR), and neonatal loss. Our Together Through Loss Ambassadors play an important role in offering peer connection to those experiencing loss in rural areas. In this volunteer role, you will be helping to implement, coordinate and lead a monthly informal social connections group in your local community.
FAQ
Our Rural Ambassador groups differ from our support groups in that they are informal peer gatherings focused on bringing the community together through their individual experiences of loss. The foundation of these groups is connection and a sense of belonging. Rural Ambassador groups are unique and offer a space to build relationships within your local area.
In order for our Ambassadors to plan effectively we do ask that you register to attend a group in your local area. You can register up to 24 hours before your group starts and attend as many groups as you would like. You will receive a confirmation email upon booking and a welcome email with location details.
As with all of our services at PILSC, we believe in the importance of removing barriers to accessing services. Thanks to funding, all of our groups are offered at no cost to participants. For those who have the means and ability to donate toward the centre and our groups programming, we graciously accept donations: https://pilsc.org/donate-to-pilsc
Yes, at PILSC we believe grief is a life-long journey and our community addresses the life-long impacts of loss and at every stage of the parenting journey (initial grief, trying to conceive, pregnant again and parenting after loss).
